I believe that sexual preference is first caused by nature. However, nature
may not be the only cause. I know many lesibians who adopted their lifestyle
and sexual preference only after having had a severly traumatic event with
a male. I also think that this can happen with men. I sincerely believe that
mental illnesses can turn a person's sexuality, as well. In the case of people
who have a need to startle others or live outside the norms of society due
to mental illnesses, this can cause a change. However, again, I believe it
is first caused by nature. Changes can occur outside of a person's inborn
nature, but it is not the first cause of a person's sexual preference. My
own sexual preference is caused by nature. I don't think that a person can
knowingly change their own sexual preference except as noted above. Even
then, I'm not sure if it could be construed as knowingly. If a person was
to rape, torture, etc. another unwillingly, it is possible that this could
change their sexual preference.

Hmm... I don't know what caused my sexuality, not that I really know what
my orientation is... I'm pretty well just a 'whatever feels good' type of
person. I mean, I find manly-men (cartoon or real-life like Sean Connery
or Vin Disel) extremely nice treats for the eyes, but I think of things like
relationships and all I can respond with is, "No way!". So... Yeah. For the
most part, though, I think what determines a person's sexual preference is
however their hormones develop, except in an extreme case such as rape, which

Being totally str8 for all my teen and childbearing years, I have always considered that sexuality was inherently hard-wired in. I know a number of lesbians and their stories are all similar. Either they knew from an early age; or were chronically unhappy at living their "normal" life as society demanded until they discovered female sex when doubts were erased. (often at great psychological cost)
I have always enjoyed str8 sex - yet somewhere in me, there is something that makes me crave the emotional closeness that f/f sex gives. I do not want to adopt a lesbian lifestyle- I love my husband - yet more and more I am looking for and having really satisfying female sexual relations.
So maybe there's more to sexuality than "hard wired." Maybe its also who you encounter.

I think that anyone's sexual preference can be caused by many different ways. The scientists'/heriditologists' (right word?) view that a person is born with a gay or straight gene has to be given some credit, but I myself am a case in point example that a man's/woman's sexual preference can be changed over time or even with one event. I grew up as a "lesbian", that is, I found girls sexually attractive. They dwelled in my fantasies when I masturbated, appeared to me as sweet-smelling, luscious-tasting, soft angels. My first sexual experiences were with girls. it wasn't till I was seventeen that I began looking at guys as sexual beings. I still didn't have a nice big cock in me till 24, one year ago. Since then I've had sex with maybe four guys. I've loved every bit of it, but still prefer girls to kiss, lick, smell, finger and please. My brother, too, ended up like this. He always looked after the girls, thought like me in that they were the superior sexual beings. But at about 15 he hooked up with a beautiful guy, very handsome, good-looking, nice-smelling. Since then, he's loved both guys and girls.

Personally, I have considered myself bisexual since I was about thirteen, but only because until then, I hadn't realized there was a middle ground. Since my first kiss in first grade with a girl, I had been wondering if I was a lesbian, but I've liked girls as long as I can remember. The first crush I remember having was on a girl, at four. My extremes, though, tend to depend on what is happening in my life at the time, who I'm interacting with, and how many asshole guys I've run into recently. I have heard of times where there has been one identical twin being gay and one being straight. Not sure how that happens! I think that some people are born one way or another - other people are more shaped by their environment. I wish I knew! That way I could work me out. Again, I think that some peopole are hardwired into whichever gender they prefer. Some people just know who they are I guess. Other people, if they change their way of thinking, may become conditioned into liking one gender or the other.
